Magma worlds

Over the last couple of years astronomers have discovered a large variety of planets in the universe. They all consist of different ingredients, have a dimension over a broad range of sizes and are located at different distances from a host star. When looking for life, we are mostly focused on detecting planets in the Goldilocks Zone. These are most likely to have water oceans on their surface. However, these are not the only types of oceans that we find. Astronomers discovered a number of planets located so close to their host star that they have oceans made out of magma. We call these 'magma worlds' or 'lava planets'.
